  • How much does writing a memoir cost?

Every writing project is unique, so pricing varies depending on the scope of your memoir. Writing a memoir can be a costly procedure because it often involves hundreds of hours of interviewing, planning, writing, and review. However, since it is also a lengthy process, after the initial payment is made, the remaining cost is dispersed over the course of the project.

  • How much interaction will I have with you?

I tailor our schedule to suit your needs. We will need to schedule regular interviews, either in person or via phone or Skype, and the process requires ongoing communication by email.

  • How long will it take to write my memoir?

Depending on the depth and length of your memoir, the writing process can be straightforward, complex, or somewhere in between. A substantial, standard length memoir can require hundreds of hours of interviewing, writing, and revision. However, I can prepare a mini memoir in a couple of months. Regardless of the scope of your memoir, I will develop content for you to review and approve on a weekly or biweekly basis. On average, a 200-page manuscript will take four to twelve months to develop.

  • Who owns the rights to my memoir?

You do

  • What is the payment arrangement?

You pay an up-front fee, followed by regular installments upon completion and approval of each section I submit to you for review. We will establish a payment schedule prior to beginning the project so we both know what to expect.

  • Who’s in charge?

You have the final say on all content decisions.

  • Is the service confidential?

Yes. I will never share recordings of our interviews.

  • Whose name will appear on the book?

This is your choice. You can request your name or both our names.

  • My book requires research. Do you do this?

I can do both basic Internet research and/or interviewing other people for your story. Since this adds to the cost, however, it’s a good idea for you to complete as much of the research as you can yourself.

  • What if I just need input on a book I’ve already written?

I’m happy to review any content you have already written and to offer feedback about structure, tone, voice, language, or any other issue I see.

  • What if I don’t like what you write?

If you’re unhappy with the first section I submit to you for your approval, you may choose not to continue the project and not to pay for the section.

  • Do you provide publishing services?

Not at this time.
